At a recent ceremony, the P.P.O. (Parent Participation Organization) of Morin Heights Elementary School acknowledged the support given to the school by Mr. Peter Desmanches, owner of IGA Morin-Heights, for the last three years. In addition to sponsoring school fundraisers for the Children’s many educational activities, Mr. Desmanches provides fruit and cheese platters every Friday as a snack for the Kindergarten and Cycle I classes.
Now Mr. Desmanches has a quest to raise enough funds to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania from October 2010. The purpose of this expedition being to raise money for the Pediatric Section of the St. Jerome Hospital to purchase new equipment to Enhance the care in the children’s ward.
Wishing to reciprocate Mr. Desmanches’ support, the OPP invited him to the school and handed him with a check for $ 223.00, representing $ 1.00 for each student. The student council also presented a giant card with Mount Kilimanjaro drawn and signed by all children wishing him the best on his expedition to Africa.
To close the ceremony, Morin Height’s mayor Tim Watchorn, Mr. Desmanches presented with a check for $ 223.00, matching the PPO’s, from the Municipality, thanking him for his continuous support within our community.
